Difference between dermal fillers and PRP, which one is better?

To understand the difference between these two first we need to know what are their origin and how they work? Which one last longer than the other and if they are permanent?

Everyone will love to have a beautiful and flawless skin and nobody want wrinkles before time. Moreover this is not used for ladies with middle age who usually get wrinkles but many girls are using it to have perfect contoured face.

Well these both are gaining so much attention for cosmetic purposes. As these are being widely used for its benefits. People are getting crazy to get perfect contoured face and instagrame is filled with such examples.  These procedures define the face and fill the depression on face.

What are Dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are actually hyaluronic based gel or substance that is injected around eyes, nasolabial folds, cheeks and directly in lips for fuller and plump look. There are different types of dermal filler but most commonly used are hyaluronic acid based fillers.

Hyaluronic acid is natural substance that is also found in our body and it has ability to hold thousands times of hydration in its one molecule. When it is injected in the skin it actually filled that area and your cheeks and lips look fuller and with more volume. This is actually different from Botox as well because Botox paralyze the nerves that cause contraction and wrinkle to the muscle. These dermal fillers just fill the dermal area which is face look plump, lifted, reduce wrinkles as well.

Depending on the type of filler, they can last you for at least 6 months to a year. After that you have to get dermal filler again to maintain the look.

What is PRP?

PRP means platelet rich plasma which is obtained from the blood of the same person who wants to get this procedure and it has least reaction risks. Plasma is separated from the patients blood and then concentrated platelets are injected into the problematic areas.

This plasma can trigger the fast recovery of wound, acne scars, wrinkles and it keeps on producing new cell. While getting its injection your skin might look full just like dermal filler. But this filling effect goes away after few days and skin cell absorb this plasma. This is a total different thing as it keep stimulating skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin for at least a year or more. this is how it naturally plump the skin and improve the appearance of wrinkles and texture of the skin.

This is usually combined with micro needling which has shown very good results. PRP doesn’t show drastic results as it needs number of session according to the skin condition. Moreover, this procedure is long-lasting and permanent. It is permanent until this newly formed collagen and elastin start to get weak again with passage of age.

BOTTOM LINE:

PRP is all the way better procedure than the dermal fillers as it is natural and long-lasting. In the procedure body is producing its own protein and your change is permanent. While you have to keep getting dermal filler to maintain the skin.

PRP is also widely used for hair loss, injury of any tendon or muscle. As It increases the healing process. Both procedures work wonderfully in reducing the wrinkles and adding volume to the face. Selecting one of them is depending on the choice of patient as he just want the quick results which could not be long-lasting. Or he wants to choose a more natural process with long-lasting effects and it may cause more sessions or sittings.

Both cost differently as PRP is quite expensive procedure than dermal fillers. Moreover they both usually don’t have any side effects except you are supposed to get swelling, pain or redness around the injected area. This can be resolved within few day and both procedure need a topical anesthetic ointment to reduce pain before injections.
